Permanent Lighting Cleaning and Care in Ballston Spa

Dirt on a light lens dims the color and throws off your scenes. We clean the lenses, track and mounting strip of your permanent lighting by hand, then check the connections and outdoor outlet so the system runs safely year-round.

What a Lighting Care Visit Means for Your System

Permanent lighting lives outside all year. Pollen, road dust, spider webs, tree sap and bird droppings settle on the lenses and in the track channel. A thin film is enough to turn a crisp white warm and dull, and to make one stretch of roofline look dimmer than the rest.

This is lighting care. We do not wash your siding or roof. We work on the light system itself: each lens, the track that holds it, and the strip of fascia or soffit right around it. We use soft brushes, clean water and a mild cleaner that is safe on the lens plastic and the seals.

While we are up on the ladder, we look at the electrical side too. Outdoor lighting has a few code basics that matter for safety, and we check them plainly and tell you what we see.

What We Do on a Care Visit

  1. 01

    Lens cleaning, one by one

We wipe each lens by hand with a soft cloth and mild cleaner. No scrub pads or harsh solvents, which can haze the plastic for good.

  2. 02

    Track and channel cleanout

Webs, leaves, insects and seed pods collect in the channel behind the lights. We clear them out so water drains and nothing blocks the light.

  3. 03

    Mounting strip wipe-down

We wipe the fascia or soffit right along the track. Streaks and grime show up badly once the lights are on at night.

  4. 04

    Seal and connector check

We look at every joint and end cap for cracks, gaps or loose fittings. A bad seal lets water reach the connectors, and that is where most flicker starts.

  5. 05

    Power supply and outlet check

Outdoor receptacles should be GFCI protected and have a weatherproof in-use cover that closes over the plug. We test the GFCI and look at the cover and the power supply mounting.

  6. 06

    App test at the end

We power the system back up and run your colors and scenes from the app. You see the result before we pack up.

Signs Your Lights Need Attention

  • Colors look off

Whites look yellow or blues look gray. That is often a film on the lens, not a failing light.

  • One run looks dimmer

Sections under trees or near a dryer vent get dirty faster. The difference shows up next to a cleaner stretch.

  • Webs and bugs in the track

Lights draw insects, and spiders follow. Webs catch dust and stay visible at night.

  • Sap, droppings or seed buildup

Maple seeds, pine sap and bird droppings stick to lenses and do not rinse off with rain.

  • Flicker or dead spots

Dirt alone rarely causes flicker. It usually means water got into a connector, and we find it while we work.

How the Visit Goes

  1. 1

    Phone call and free quote

Call and give us the length of the run, how high it is and what you've noticed. We quote it free and book a day.

  2. 2

    Shut off and inspect

The system gets turned off at the controller before we handle any light. We then walk the roofline and photograph anything you should see.

  3. 3

    Hand cleaning

We go one section at a time with soft brushes, cloths and a gentle low-flow rinse. A pressure washer never touches the lights, because high pressure can force water past the seals.

  4. 4

    Inspect, test and review

We look over the connectors, the GFCI and the outlet cover, then turn the system on and run the app. You see the photos, hear about any repair needed and get a price before anything is done.

What Moves the Price

Most of the cost is time on the ladder. A short single-story run takes far less time than a long two-story roofline with peaks. We give you the price on the phone call or after a quick look, before any work starts.

Length of the run
More feet of track means more lenses to clean and more joints to check.
Height and access
Second-story eaves, steep peaks and spots over decks or shrubs take more setup and care.
How much buildup
A light film wipes off fast. Years of sap, webs and droppings take longer.
Number of zones
Each zone has its own power supply and connections to check, so more zones add some time.

Questions About Cleaning Your Lights

Is hosing the lights down myself okay?

A light rinse from the ground won't hurt. Skip pressure washers and high-power nozzles, since they can drive water into the connectors, and never climb a ladder holding a hose. A hose or rain won't remove sap or film, so hand cleaning makes the difference.

How often do permanent lights need cleaning?

For most houses, once a year does it. Runs under trees, close to chimneys or along busy roads may need more. A lot of homeowners book it in fall, ahead of the long dark season and the holiday scenes.

Do the lights come down for cleaning?

No. We clean them right where they sit in the track. If we find a cracked lens or a failed seal, we let you know and price the repair before touching it.

Is a permit needed for this?

Not for cleaning and checking a system you already have. If we find a need for a new outdoor outlet or a wiring change, that work may call for a permit and inspection, and we explain what applies before you choose.

What's the point of checking the outlet?

An outdoor outlet should have GFCI protection and a cover that shuts with the plug in place. Together they keep people and the system safe from shock and water. The check only takes a few minutes, so we do it on every visit.
